La tercera edición de la Bienal de Flamenco Eslovenia —BI Flamenko 2022— tiene lugar en la capital Ljubljana. El festival, que celebró su primera cita en 2018 y luego en 2020, justo antes del estallido de la pandemia, está organizado por el centro cultural Cankarjev dom, la mayor institución cultural de Eslovenia, que ha contado con la colaboración como partner de la Bienal de Flamenco de Países Bajos. De hecho, la muestra está comisariada por su directora Ernestina van de Noort, en colaboración con Bogdan Benigar y Andrej Jaklič.
Durante Bi Flamenko, se está pudiendo ver a una nueva cosecha de creadores de flamenco explorar los límites del antiguo arte flamenco y traer tradición y experimentación juntos en extraordinarios conciertos y actuaciones. Combinando la tradición con la innovación, sus actuaciones ofrecen una nueva y sorprendente visión contemporánea del flamenco.
Bi Flamenko, un festival que mezcla tradición y sensibilidad moderna, comparte una visión de esta vibrante cultura. Instrumentos clásicos realzados por electrónica, pasos de flamenco clásico combinado con ritmos de danza contemporánea y un temperamento mediterráneo que se encuentra con el jazz, música clásica, ritmos africanos y árabes.
Del 22 de febrero al 1 de marzo de 2022, Cankarjev dom en Ljubljana brillará y vibrará con flamenco de lo más vanguardista a lo tradicional. El público disfruta de una larga semana con el flamenco interpretado por estrellas famosas, así como por talentos eslovenos emergentes.
El festival arrancó con la profunda tradición gitana ejemplificada por Pepe Habichuela, el patriarca del afamado clan Carmona. La jornada inaugural del festival ‘Una velada con Pepe Habichuela’, ha incluido película, concierto y charla dedicada al artista. La noche culminó con un espectáculo de la mejor voz flamenca de su generación, Mayte Martín, ‘como sutil y suave como el encaje”. Dando una muestra de la maestría musical local, el guitarrista flamenco.

La vanguardia de la danza está representada por Leonor Leal que aporta su exquisita percusión paisaje sonoro Nocturno con el percusionista Antonio Moreno y el guitarrista Alfredo Lagos. los la gala de clausura corre a cargo del pionero y rebelde flamenco de la primera hora Israel Galván, en su espectáculo de teatro-música El amor brujo.
Porque el flamenco y el jazz forman un matrimonio feliz, el festival concluirá con el jazz flamenco que llega hasta Cuba, un género apasionante interpretado por la inspiradora pianista. El trío hispano-cubano de Daniel García Diego. Que el arte flamenco literalmente trasciende fronteras lo demuestran los espectáculos de dos talentosos

The life of the legendary flamenco guitarist Pepe Habichuela, one of the most important
reinventors of 20th
-century flamenco guitar, blends family musical tradition – which in the
Habichuela clan is handed down from one generation to the next – with artistic sensibility
and great vision. The trying circumstances of his early life compelled Pepe to build a career
for himself in music. Demonstrating prodigious talent, he soon rose to prominence as an
artist and worked with the greatest names in flamenco and music at large. At the Bi
flamenko Festival, Habichuela travels along the main stops in his career, remembering his
predecessors in the company of his successors while directing his gaze towards the future.

A journey into the roots of flamenco and the art of living flamenco, through the art and
person of legendary guitarist Manuel Moreno Junquera ‘Moraíto Chico’ (1956-2011).
Together with his uncle Manuel Morao and his son Diego del Morao he forms the heart of
the Morao gypsy dynasty who has put an indelible mark on the flamenco style from Jerez de
la Frontera, one of the most prominent breeding grounds of flamenco.
In this documentary Moraíto Chico ‘Morao’ gives us a glimpse of his life and shows us where
the magic of his music lies: in what happens in between the notes, in what reverberates in
silence.

Dancer and choreographer Urška Centa and a contemporary flamenco avant-garde artist,
Marco de Ana, continue their fruitful creative partnership with a sequel to their project
Stories of Birds (premiered in July 2021). The project relates to the work of the Chilean poet,
writer and visual artist, Juan Luis Martínez, who found his creative inspiration in birds. This
time, Marco de Ana co-choreographs Urška Centa’s solo, seeking simple and raw beauty in
the movement of a bird and its vocal interaction with the environment.

flamenco repertoire and folk poetry.

“Before I fall asleep, I close my eyes and watch myself dance. I imagine the movements that sing
the space I rule. I save them by sound, and with my body, I tattoo its traces into the air.” This is
how Leonor Leal describes her nocturnal thoughts that propel the redefinition of flamenco: Body,
rhythm, and guitar tread on new ways with her and two musicians. A one-act piece, Nocturno
does not tell a story, but speaks of impressions, moments and feelings. Such an atmosphere
is ideally suited to the character and personality of Leonor Leal. Without cante, without a
big story, but a powerful stage presence, a precise and personal dancer who is strong and
sensual at the same time. The traces she leaves are as unpredictable and accomplished as
those emerging from the extemporaneous rhythms of both musicians with whom she
constructs a wonderful soundscape.

Alfredo Lagos is one of today’s most all-round flamenco guitarists and much sought-after by
singers. On the album Punto de Fuga [Vanishing Point], featuring his own compositions,
Lagos emerges as one of the most prominent contemporary flamenco guitarists of the
moment. He can be heard in two 2022 Bi flamenco shows, Leonor Leal’s Nocturno and Israel
Galván and Manuel de Fallá’s El amor brujo.

Ana Pandur continues to weave the red thread that unravelled in her project premiered at
the first Bi flamenko festival. Like in Firebird, the Party Box’s soundscape again relies on shrill
guitar riffs. With the difference that the artist here takes a “step sideways”, into complete
silence. The introductory part, White Noise, “deafens” us with silence, and the second part,
Black Sounds, picks up where Firebird fell silent, except that this time the role of the guitarist
is taken by Damir Avdić.

El amor brujo is a ballet composed in 1914–15 by Manuel de Falla to a libretto by Gregorio
Martínez Sierra. In 1916, Falla arranged a rendition of the work for sextet and small
orchestra and the following year he made a concert version, also for small orchestra.

search in dance is transformation, and in this case, the old masters give me the key to
